Karnataka State Police
The Karnataka State Police Department is the law enforcement agency for the Indian state of Karnataka. The department is headed by the Director-General and Inspector General of Police. It also aimed to make recruitment to various Police recruitment through competitive and departmental examinations.
HISTORY
The foundation of the present police setup was laid after the appointment of the State’s first Inspector General of Police in the year 1883. Today the State Police has grown into a big and complex organization running on modern management principles. In the year 1932 to recruit literate into the police force Probationary Police Inspectors were directly recruited. The State Inspector General of Police was the appointing authority. Annually probationers Police Inspectors were to be recruited as per the demand of the department.
DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
Karnataka State Police shall uphold the Law and the Rights of all people for a safe and secure environment, conducive to their internal and external growth and development. Towards this end, we set for ourselves the following objectives.
Protect the lives and liberties of the people from criminal and anti-social elements. Earn the goodwill, support, and active assistance of the community. Coordinate with other departments of the Criminal Justice System. Equal treatment regardless of caste, religion, social and economic status, or political affiliations. Due consideration for women, children, senior citizens, and weaker sections. Improve professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes and adopt modern methods in police work. Promote human rights and professional values of integrity, honesty, and efficiency. Accept and play our role in social transformation and bring about improvement in the quality of life within society.
THE KSP APPOINTMENTS FOR VARIOUS POSTS
Appointment to the State Police Service will be made by the State Government either by direct recruitment through the Karnataka Public Service Commission or by promotion in accordance with the provisions of the Karnataka State Police Services including Ministerial Services (Recruitment) Rules, 1994 and Karnataka Recruitment of Gazetted Probationers (Appointment by Competitive Examinations).
